In recent years, the plastic industry has been developing more and more ways to incorporate CO2 into its production. In 2013, the U.S. Department of Energy’s Office of Fossil Energy subsidized a project in which waste CO2 was used as a key ingredient in the production of polypropylene carbonate polymer. The polymers produced were found to be more durable and less susceptible to environmental degradation than existing polymers. Additionally, conventional plastic production relies heavily on fossil fuels, making the process hazardous to the environment and unpractical in the long run. As the plastic industry increasingly implements CO2 into its production, Global Thermostat is positioned to meet this newfound demand. We are currently pioneering this approach with a leading thermoplastic manufacturer.
